Save the Ranch!
Basset Rescue Network, Inc., at DaphneyLand is unique in that we are neither a “sanctuary” nor a “kennel.” We are a Rehabilitation Center – and the only residential rehabilitation center in the WORLD dedicated exclusively to Basset Hounds.
As the last 4 years and the economic recession hit, more and more donors had to tighten their belts. In California, where real estate is ridiculously expensive, the biggest hit was the lease payment. Working together, we have spent more than two years attempting to work out a loan modification or adjustment. Having been given every assurance it WOULD work out, it did not. We are now struggling to save the hounds refuge with very little time.
Annually we have 300 – 500 Basset Hounds that are placed through our programs, and every day we handle up to 70 bassets. If you do the math, that means 24,500 hounds to feed, vet, clean, train, and care for. Animal rescue is expensive work; not many realize that. So many rescue groups are facing this issue at the moment and we are very fortunate to have been able to keep our doors and programs open when others were forced to relocate or close completely.
This fund is donor advised. This means that any donation into the “Hound Housing Fund” can only be used to solve housing issues. We are attempting to negotiate being able to keep this property for the hounds. Plans A – Z were created and the negotiations change daily. One thing is for certain, however – without funding in the bank we will not be able to stay at our present location. Alternate locations, kenneling, foster situations for our cancer hounds and seniors, and potential sanctuary issues for our behavior program dogs are all things our Board of Directors has been working on non-stop. Moving locations would create a problem for our long-established community-based programs, such as youth education, at-risk youth programs, donation drives, adoption traffic, our volunteer pool, and our donor base.
We will be rolling out a “Sustainability Sponsorship Program” within a short period of time. We hope every donor, adoptive family, volunteer and friend takes a peek and pledges recurring monthly donations to help the hounds overcome the strain economic strife has caused. We have geared this drive toward basset lovers – the ones that work hard, scrape together pocket change, and give to help the hounds!
Thank you for your continued support. The testimonials and sharing as a result of our crisis has indeed been heartwarming to read. We are ALMOST at the goal on this page. Every dollar counts, so please help us reach this goal so the concept of “DaphneyLand – The Rehabilitation Center” does not have to end. We cannot do it without YOUR support!
Please donate if you can and share via email, social media, and word of mouth!
