OUR PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH

The unique philosophy and rehabilitation approach used at DaphneyLand has placed it in the forefront as the only Basset rescue specific rehabilitation center in the world. Bassets who have been homeless, in shelters, on the streets, in abusive or neglectful homes, or even displaced from their homes due to economic or family crisis issues all come to us with various “baggage.” In short, they all need help to recover from the hurts and pain of the past and need to be rehabilitated – physically, mentally and socially.

At DaphneyLand this is accomplished though pack socialization, nutritional correction, and veterinary care combining homeopathic, allopathic, herbology, and alternative therapies which are all bound together with fresh air, exercise, and lots of time and love. Gifts for the hounds go directly to the hounds’ needs, from intake through adoption. Each hound is loved and treated as a family member.

The daily routine is kept stable and the dogs learn first to trust those who feed them. They have other Bassets to play with and learn from and, as their social skills improve, many of them learn how to play and be a dog for the first time. As their bodies heal from poor nutrition, their personalities begin to emerge and they blossom into the loving, playful, and silly dogs that Basset Hounds are intended to be.
