THE BASSET CHAT

December 4 , 2007

As 2007 nears its close, we look back on all the wonderful things this year has brought to the Hounds who call Daphneyland Home. 2007 saw a great team of people unite and band together to bring rescue awareness and the need for adoption as an option to the forefront of almost every media venue.

From the reality show that brought attention to the plight of homeless senior hounds, and started the Senior Basset Dream Fund of a building specifically for seniors, shade structure donations and new exercise parks for the hounds, wire crates made possible after the fires wind and smoke damaged our plastic vari kennels, and into the future with a much brighter outlook.

Daphneyland now is home to 100 hounds daily and open for adoptions on weekends. Boarding is available and is how we are able to pay for our overhead to run Daphneyland - it takes hard work, dedication, love and lots of money so that our rescue partners can continue to enjoy a safe haven while they await forever families.

Our youth program is reaching new bounds, and we are proud to announce the formation of Y.E.L.P.; Youth Education & Learning Program, where today's youth can volunteer to work with rehabilitation, care, training and discover leadership capabilities.  Our youth volunteers are the future for the Hounds, and we strive to achieve a wonderful blend of rescue, education, fun and fullfillment.

Our tradition of running the hounds at New Years and having a moment of silence under the stars to communicate with our beloved furbabies gone to the bridge before us continues this year, and on New Years Eve we will hold a potluck, champagne toast and the belled running of the hounds.  Please join us as we tuck all hounds in with a new blankie as a promise for a brighter future in the New Year. Daphneyland - The Basset Rescue Ranch.
